With the comprehensive upgrade of Malaysia's digital tax system, to combat cross-border tax evasion, standardize import and export enterprise tax filing, and improve national trade data supervision, the authorities have set the BRN enterprise registration number as a mandatory declaration element for import clearance. Whether it is full container sea freight, LCL goods, engineering project equipment, bulk raw materials, or e-commerce small parcel air freight, all must undergo corporate tax qualification verification.
For foreign trade enterprises, freight forwarders, and shipping companies deeply involved in China-Malaysia routes and Southeast Asia cross-border logistics, this policy adjustment brings new compliance operation requirements. Previously, many forwarders were accustomed to completing clearance documents after the goods arrived at the port; this mode of operation is no longer applicable. Only by actively adapting to the new customs regulations of each country can freight forwarders and foreign trade enterprises continue to stably develop their Southeast Asian route businesses.
Industry logistics practitioners suggest that related enterprises should quickly complete customer data classification and archiving, establish a tax information database for Southeast Asian consignee companies, and add BRN, TIN and other data review processes at the business order-taking stage. At the same time, update internal operating procedures in a timely manner, and conduct policy training for business, documentation, and operations teams to avoid problems such as declaration information errors or missing materials due to personnel negligence.
As the trade regulatory system in Southeast Asia continues to improve, import and export compliance has become a core competitiveness of cross-border logistics.
